Where do you fit in at Family Promise?

Feed a Family

Do you like to cook? Is cooking your passion?  


Prepare your favorite meal and share it with our guest families.

Not really into cooking but still want to provide a meal? 


Here are ways to give:

  • Bring a recipe and meal ingredients for the families to prepare on their own. Please make sure ingredients are unopened and not expired. 

  • Send a check  addressed to Family Promise Rochester. Staff will purchase meal ingredients or a prepared meal for the families.

  • DoorDash a meal

  • Send gift cards to Family Promise Rochester. Staff will purchase the meals on the families behalf.

Donations & Inventory

Do you like organizing and putting things in its place? 


We could use your help in our donation acceptance and processing area.

This volunteer opportunity would include putting donations away in their respective areas and accurately updating our inventory count.

This is a family-friendly opportunity.

Hours for this opportunity are flexible and can be completed anytime during office hours:

9am -4pm

Monday- Friday

Friday Family Fun Night

Host a meal and a night of fun with our guest families. Festivities can either be held at the North Star House, your church, or another community location. This is a great opportunity to meet and bond with families and might remind volunteers of our previous model with evening engagement!

Some ideas for a fun night:

  • Game night

  • Movie night

  • Grill out

  • Campfire & smores

This opportunity is currently available monthly on the 1st and 3rd Friday beginning July 1st, 2022! 

Street Team

We are seeking volunteers to help us publicize our organization and upcoming events throughout the local community.

Are you outgoing, friendly, and sincerely enjoy talking and listening to people?


Are you passionate about building relationships within the community?

We Want You!!

This opportunity requires both an in-person and/or a social media presence. 

Life Skills

School Year

During the school year we host Life Skills classes for our guest families, and welcome graduate families to come back and join, on subjects like financial literacy, mindfulness, parent/child relationship building, and so much more! 

We are ALWAYS looking for volunteers to engage with the following age groups:

  • 7 and under

  • 8 -16

Classes meet 2x monthly on the 2nd and 4th Thursday at Northrop Community Education Center from 5pm - 8 pm (depending on if we provide dinner or not).


Life Skills classes are held once per month and are packed with tons of fun.

Sherlock Volunteer

Do you know of job opportunities or affordable housing?

Could you help us find employment for our parents?

Are you home with some spare time and access to a phone?

We are looking for volunteers to contact local attractions, entertainment, and special events for tickets so our guest families can become acclimated to the community and enjoy an activity together.

General Maintenance

We are seeking a volunteer, or more, to be our handy-person! We have ongoing and immediate maintenance need that needs some attention. 

We are also looking for new members to join our NSH Maintenance Committee. If interested, please contact our Interim Executive Director, Erin Sinnwell.


Transportation Assistant

We are seeking volunteers to assist with driving our guests to job interviews, doctors appointments, county appointments, etc. 


  • Must be 21 years of age or older

  • Must have a VALID driver's license

  • Complete a Minnesota State Department of Motor Vehicles check

  • Complete a criminal background check

Family Promise Rochester reserves the right to accept or deny you as a volunteer for this opportunity based on the results from these checks.

This opportunity is on an as needed basis.

Donation Drives

This is an opportunity to give back to the local community and have some fun while doing it!

Challenge your friends, family, co-workers, church members, neighbors and community members to gathers as many items as they can to support those that need it the most!

Data Entry Assistant

A Data Entry Clerk is responsible for transferring data from paper formats into computer files or database systems. Their transfer of data happens manually or using scanners. They type in customers' information and create spreadsheets, verifying them against source documents at different stages during the process.


  • Good command of English both oral and written and customer service skills

  • Great attention to detail

  • Experience working with technology is essential, as you'll work primarily from a computer
